The Object of Desire1992

The object of desire is part three of the Colour Trilogy and Part three of the seven part Colour Myths. What we see here is what fascinates Narcissus as he is caught by his own image as he looks into the pool on Mount Helicon. Echo is nearby telling him she loves him but she can only speak using his word such that these words are heard by him as if by his lover, his reflection in the pool - this struck me is the mother of all feedback loops. All of the images were created in my living room, all of the images were digitally manipulated in one of the highest level post production houses in London in 1991/92… I was Artist in Residence at this facility (Complete Video) one of the technicians told me that had this been a fully paid professional job the kit we had tied up would’ve cost $1500 per hour… Nowadays I can do all of this and much much more myself in my own studio…
