Biography

Kate Pelling is a German artist and curator originally from UK. She is best known for video works using direct address to camera and experimental editing processes such as ‘blind editing’, which involves making cuts to the video without looking at the footage.

Recent work has explored ideas around the successes and failures of different communities – as an immigrant in Germany and as a working class artist. Her series of videos titled '50 Wigs’, which explore these themes, have won prizes in film festivals around the world.

In 2016, she completed her PhD at Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London, titled ‘Select Reject Reconfigure: Editing Speech in Artists' Direct Address to Camera’ which used drawing to extend the language of editing beyond existing conventions.
