About
Filmed over four years on 16mm, Leanna Kaiser’s Babes in the Woods is an experimental portrait of Sage and her two children living on a commune in the forests of Missouri. Through subtle, intuitive observation and collage-like editing, Kaiser’s film explores not only motherhood but also personhood, reflecting on the nurturing of the land, our offspring, and the life within ourselves, knowing they all may be one. While the children know a near-Edenic existence, the adults carry the knowledge of another world. An urban lifestyle that they may one day return to. Babes in the Woods offers a profound and beautiful exploration of life and motherhood on the fringes of society.
