Florence came across a secret door in the cedar panelling and a seahorse on the purple carpet.

About
A filmic experience, fleeting memory, spectral presence - exploring the modernist Civic Centre in Newcastle. A “flamboyant folly” with all its original features intact; a liminal space exists between the building's civic functions, and regular use for film/TV shoots. Activating the cinematically evocative rooms as imaginary film sets.
Florence inhabits the sets as imaginary film director/producer who likes to disrupt the civic order of things, a dissident shaping our psychic state. Florence is a cipher, an embodiment of Florence Knoll (of iconic Knoll Furniture). Designed the waiting room (“green room”) where marriages, civil, and citizenship ceremonies take place.
She creates ephemeral interventions as props, gestures, and clues. Between memory and atmosphere, the lived experience and the imaginary, a spatial drama plays out across moving image and page. An evolving script with a nod to the seminal Czech film, Daisies (1966).
