Description
In the face of global ecological collapse, there's nothing radical about loving the non-human.
A program of 16mm films that, taken together, can expand the notion of who and what deserve to be subjects of human empathy. "Radical Empathy" looks at what happens when we break through the traditional silos of "love," usually reserved for partners, family, and pets, and apply our empathy to non-human animals, inanimate objects, the non-living natural world, and the discarded. In the face of global ecological collapse, there's nothing radical about loving the non-human. Can we overcome the industrial, technological, and political cynicism that keeps us from achieving this ideal?
Curated by G. Anthony Svatek for the Camera Obscura IV Annual Report in Petaluma, California in 2018.
