Biography
The long and eclectic career of photographer Luigi Cazzaniga spans art, fashion, commerce and politics. Born in Milan, Luigi lived in New York since 1984. His historic 9/11 footage was shown on CNN, HBO, BBC, Italian RAI and television networks around the world. His film “9 /11” was screened in Orzinuovi, Soncino and New York. Cazzaniga directed and produced videos on American life for Italian tv stations.
Between 1986 and 1996 Cazzaniga was artistic director of Cover Magazine, a New York art journal. Since 2000 Cazzaniga and his wife, Ilka Scobie, have worked with Italy's Marie Claire interviewing New York's most influential artists, including Alex Katz, Chuck Close, Kehinde Wiley, Jim Dine, Kara Walke, Kiki Smith. Cazzaniga also worked for Inter Milan Soccer League.
His "Hyper Abstract" projections have appeared at the Bronx Museum, the Bowery Poetry Club, La Mama and Howl Gallery, the Shankill Castle in Ireland, Soncino in several Biennials, the Contemporanea in Casal Maggiore and the Stream Gallery in Bushwick, New York.
His works are currently exhibited in the Dalì Museum in Figueras, Spain, and have been exhibited at the Galleria dei Serpenti in Rome, at No Commission in the Bronx, in Manhattan at the Knitting Factory, the Yanos Gat Gallery, at The Hole, as well as at the Hamilton Gallery in London, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boulder Colorado, at the FNAC in Genoa, at the Gare2 Gallery in Brescia and recently at the Printing Museum in Soncino. His two books, “Mondo Inter” and “Group Portraits” were published in Italy. An online selection of his film work is currently featured on Exquisite Pandemic, a New York art blog. Recently Cazzaniga also curated 4 major exhibitions together with his wife for ARTAM Spazio Soncino, including the FILANDA exhibition in Soncino in 2023 with the works of 48 Italian and US artists. In 2023, his photograph of Donyale Luna was used for the creation of a large 5x5m perennial mosaic at the Cittadella degli Archivi in Milan.
Cazzaniga also participated with dozens of his photographs in the HBO documentary “Donyale Luna Supermodel.” tThree recent solo shows have been at the Printing Museum in Soncino, the San Domenico Theater in Cremona with images created with Artificial Intelligence, and at Palazzo Fodri in Cremona, as part of the recent Cremona Art Week.
