Pattern Impulse1979

This handmade film was first screened as a “Film Score for Live Music” with four musicians performing the images. Each graphic symbol represents a particular instrument, establishing an image-sound relationship that creates a variety of rhythms and instrumentation, and reveals the anticipation of the performers. I wanted a sound version of the film, so I used one of the recordings and renamed the film “Pattern Impulse.” A silent version of the film still exists ready to be performed.
