Trilogy: Interval/Open & Shut/Narrative Moves1977

The film is divided into three sections which all use the same type of images and sounds–a Southern California house and landscape as recorded through a kind of peripheral vision of fragmented notation. The objects and sounds of the film do not have 'given' meanings; they are everyday and inconsequential enough to escape general symbolic appropriation. Each of the three sections constructs a particular syntax for these images and sounds, modulating the way they are experienced and building specific contextual meanings. –J. K.
