This new work, not quite a dance, not quite a film nor a musical event, seems to have a life of its own. Working with these elements again and again, refining each step of the way, Doris Chase is now doing things that have not been done before. There have been 'dance films,' but Doris's are something more. Like other avant-garde works, hers resist classification, yet their beauty is quite traditional. The undulating forms and colors of her films are appealing for the same reasons we accept Kandinsky's paintings. They are formally rich." – Robert Sitton, Portland Art Museum
