Screening
On March 12th & 13th at 7pm, FUGUE STATE once again brings radical cinema to The Film-Makers' Cooperative, where the festival first launched in the summer of 2025. This time around, FUGUE STATE presents two nights of screenings, including the NY premiere of PLAY DEAD! by Canadian filmmaker Matthew Lancit and the world premiere of M Woods' Stuck in the 90's.
Fugue State, a project of Disassociative Productions, is a traveling multimedia festival of experimental, radical, political, and avant-garde cinema with previous screenings held at the NY Film-Makers' Coop, Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, Elastic Arts Foundation (Chicago), and Comfort Station (Chicago). M Woods, multi-disciplinary artist and founder of the festival, created the platform as a direct attack at the gate-kept, corrupted, and cronyistic film festival circuit.
Showcasing work that transgresses formulaic cinema, Fugue State seeks to usurp institutions backed by blood money, conspiratorial networks, and corporate dollars, remaining opposed to the not-for-profit industrial complex while offering a fully independent alternative.
PLAY DEAD!: What began as a nostalgic film diary has become gradually contaminated by phantasmagorical and burlesque representations of diabetes and its effects on the director’s body. Now he is on a quest to re- claim images associated with the horror films of his youth and to return them to the reality of the every- day.
STUCK IN THE 90's is the 5th feature film by M. Woods, the culmination of the Stuck in the 90's video art webisodic which has been released through Full Spectrum Features as part of their acclaimed CYBERSLIME series. Starring "The Prom Date Fuck", this terrible piece of shit is a nightmare of internet sludge, reveling in its own grotesque nihilism, dripping in micro plastics and auto-erotic lust. A nightmare of hyperreal proportions.
M. Woods and Matthew Lancit will appear in person.
