Biography

Anton Astudillo (they/he) aka Anto or Anto(n), is a Lenapehoking/New York–based filmmaker and curator whose work spans 16mm film, video, and performance. Their practice centers on moving portraits that explore personal and political themes, bridging embodied methodologies with experimental filmmaking. Astudillo co-founded the AgX Film Collective (est. 2015 in Boston) alongside local experimental artists and taught film production at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Emerson College, and Keene State College. His work has been presented in screenings, exhibitions, and festivals including BRIC, Film Diary NYC, Microscope Gallery, TILDE Melbourne, MoMA, MoMA PS1, the Ann Arbor Film Festival, IX Festival Dobra (Brazil), Mills Gallery in Boston, NADA, ATA and WhiteBox Galleries in New York City, Anthology Film Archives, WNDX Festival of Moving Image and Performance Space New York, among others.

As a 2024–25 BRIClab Video Art Fellow, Astudillo worked with mentor Deanna Bowen. In addition to their artistic practice, Astudillo is an independent curator, working across local and international film festivals and venues, including serving as Festival Director of the Seattle Trans Film Festival (2023–24), and currently as a year-round programmer at NewFest, New York’s LGBTQ+ film and media organization. In 2022, Astudillo joined a group of New York based artists to bring back Millennium Film Workshop, where they served as Program Director (2023–25) and currently work as Outreach and Development Director, while maintaining an ongoing curatorial role. They are also a co-founder of Trans+ Film Social, a monthly work-in-progress gathering for TGNC artists (est. 2023 in NYC) in collaboration with the Trans Film Collective.
